Plaids, florals, birds, butterflies, sailing ships and sea turtles. Come see what my latest batch of skirts are made of at Twist, today and tomorrow in Nothampton. This is a stellar show full of fresh and unique talent. To see my complete holiday show schedule, spanning Vermont and Western Massachusets, click here.
My creative small business endeavor is sustainably handmade apparel, accessories and house wares sewn from vintage, recycled, and new designer fabrics.
Like quilters of my grandmother's generation who used recycled materials that were readily available to them, it is important to me to find and use beautiful quality materials that might otherwise go wasted. While I do use some new designer fabrics that I find particularly dynamic, I try to use recycled materials as much as possible. I especially like to use woven cotton button-down shirts and older materials resurrected from the cast off fabric collections of others'. Marrying fabrics in unusual, humorous, or beautifully harmonious combinations feeds me creatively. I enjoy including an obviously recycled decorative element when I can. I want people to experience the realization, "Hey! This used to be a shirt."
